DOT on Marijuana

DOT still prohibits marijuana for recreational, medical uses

Despite state measures to legalize both the recreation and medical uses of marijuana, the Department of Transportation said that truck drivers and other occupations regulated by DOT law are still prohibited from using marijuana for any purpose. Truck operators who use synthetic marijuana and fail a drug test will be disqualified from operating a commercial motor vehicle.

The DOT’s Director of the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy Compliance said that the Department will still be testing as it usually does and that tests will not be deemed negative even if drivers used marijuana in a state where it’s legal for recreational use or in a state in which it’s legal for medical purposes.
