Under C.R.I.P., NATC sends highly trained and specialized field personnel
directly to a carrier's Principle Place of Business (PPB) or Terminal location
to conduct an on-site review. While most third-party reviews are
performed by personnel with little direct experience in carrier operations,
our reviews are performed by personnel who have previous experience as
actual carrier safety directors or motor carrier enforcement agents.
Unlike other carrier auditing programs, C.R.I.P. provides carrier personnel
with practical and effective consulting services during and directly after the
on-site review. One of the two goals of this program is to improve each
carrier's safety and compliance status, and thereby reducing liability
exposure to both shippers and the carrier. Carriers, while initially reluctant
to on-site audits of their operation, have found the C.R.I.P. approach
very effective and valuable to their company as a management tool.
A number of carriers have requested their own on-site audits as a means
of evaluating and improving their own operations.
NATC provides an overall numerical rating of 0 to 10 for each C.R.I.P.
performed. This rating is derived from a formula which takes the weighted
values of each question asked on the multi page audit report and divides
the score by the maximum applicable points possible for that carrier
review. A copy of the multi page completed C.R.I.P. report is left with
the carrier during the exit interview.
We also provide a rating on the safety and hazardous material/
environmental areas separately. The major benefit of receiving a
numerical rating is that it allows both the shipper and carrier to compare
the operations of various carriers to one another on the basis of safety
and liability exposure. Carriers can use the number to plot and track
progress in their safety and compliance programs.
